The Pink Carpet: Susan Sarandon’s Pearls at the Golden Globes
After last year’s cancellation, The Golden Globes were back with a bang this year. As always, the hours before the awards caused as much hype as the event itself, with red carpet fashions scrutinised by a mob of fashion journalists. If you looked past the glitzy gowns and shining sapphires, you might have noticed, as I did, the timeless elegance of Susan Sarandon, who had donned with pride a Fred Leighton exclusive long pearl necklace. The oscar-winning actress was clearly head over heels for her designer necklace and it sounded like Leighton will have a job on his hands getting her to let go of the piece.I don’t blame her! The necklace was a subtle mix of modern style and classic sophisitication.
You might say that the fact that Sarandon, still stunning at 62, was the only A-list celebrity at the Globes to be wearing pearls, means that we’re going back to the days of pearls being the jewels of choice for the “older” woman?Absolutely not! Pearl jewellery has a timeless elegance and charm if you know how to wear it. How? By doing as the celebrities do and only accepting real quality!A word of caution - you need to be wary of the many low grade and poorly fashioned eBay pearls out there. If you’re on a budget, go for natural freshwater pearls which can be beautiful. But for the true celeb treatment you should spend that little extra on saltwater pearls, the choice of Susan Sarandon on Sunday night.
