Patio Lights That Add Drama & Safety

Your home says so much about you. Your outdoor area does as well. The outdoor patio lights you choose will send a positive or negative message as well.  You want the patio lighting you select to be unique and decorative as well as functional.

There is nothing quite as satisfying as coming home from work and having a relaxing meal on your custom patio with beautiful and creative patio lights.  Cook your meal in your outdoor patio kitchen that has been properly lit for peak safety and performance.

Before starting, think about the areas that either need some patio lights for practical and safety purposes or for accenting a fountain or other water feature.  Look at others areas near your deck. You may want to shine light on special plant or tree that is a focal point in your yard.  If you have children you may want to light their play area or create an area just for them.

There are endless styles and types of patio lights available today.  You will have a hard time picking your favorite. They range from classic and timeless to casual and contemporary. Patio lights can be easily researched and purchased online or at your local home improvement center.  You can install them yourself or have them professionally installed.

If you have steps or stairs leading up to your deck or patio you may want to consider installing patio lights into each step.  You may have a path that requires lights to direct your guests to the patio.  There are low voltage lights for saving energy.

There are lights on wheels that use propane that can be brought out as necessary.  They give a vintage or tropical look with the flame that is produced.  This is less messy than the torches that require candles or oil.  These are long lasting sources of light that will produce an enchanting mood.

Consider design elements such as silhouetting, shadowing, or moonlighting with your patio lights.  They not only add beauty but value to your home as well.

Before purchasing patio lights, look around your yard and patio area at night.  This will help you see the areas that may need extra light for safety reasons or other areas that may need a light shining upwards to highlight a tree.   If you are not sure where to begin you may have to enlist the help of a patio and garden design expert.  You may have a friend or neighbor who has a gift for this type of design and planning that can also help with some constructive advice.

It is equally important that your personality shows with the type of patio lights and design elements you choose.  Don’t make it a task that needs to be checked off your list, take your time, be creative and have fun.
