Our World Water Crisis
You are thirsty. You choose a glass and walk over to the kitchen faucet. Turn the spigot and fresh, clean, satisfying water comes out. You probably don’t stop to think how blessed you are, and how millions of people around the world cannot do the simple thing you just did.
There is a water crisis in our world; people are dying right now. Why this crisis when there seems to be an abundance of water all over the world? Because, amazingly, only about 3% of the world’s water is drinkable. Most of this undrinkable water is salt water coming from all the oceans and the salt makes it unfit for drinking.
Much of the drinkable water has been polluted or contaminated, thanks to our industrial waste and large companies still dumping waste into normally safe sources of drinking water.
Most citizens of well-off nations like the USA don’t even notice that all this is going on in the world; we are already blessed with plenty of clean, pure drinking water. We go to an appointment at an office and bottled water is available for us to drink. Typically, when we go to a restaurant, a glass of water is brought to us as soon as we arrive. We are even able to get bottled water from vending machines.
Water is necessary for humans to live healthy lives, but because of this water crisis, millions are ill or dying; especially people in developing countries where they are even fighting over water. In this crisis, the most helpless — infants and the elderly — suffer highest death rates. Did you know that 4,900 babies — a shocking number — die every day just because they lack clean drinking water.
Gradually this has become clear: there is an immediate need for new water treatment plants, and for new ways to treat sewage water. And these are the new water machines that we really need.
This is a very tall order for our world today. Treatment plants can take the salt out of saltwater, as well as a new generation of machines that can make water out of the air.
With the crisis becoming worse, new companies are working on technology not even dreamed of as yet. The crisis is becoming worse because our underwater sources in some areas are becoming polluted which is making this water crisis one that could soon affect the USA and other developed countries.
A machine now on the market can produce approximately 500 gallons of drinkable water right out of the air. This kind of water machine isn’t portable, but at least this new technology is being developed.
Portable water machines such as this will probably be the wave of the future, and be located in every home, restaurant, office, and business. But at least the crisis is now being acknowledged. We are optimistic that this realization has not come too late.
