Epoxy Garage Paint - How To Use It
Epoxy floor paints are used on floors that are subjected to heavy vehicular and human traffic, like the garage and the basement. They also work well on laundry room floors, shop floors, brick pavers, concrete slabs, kennels, pole barns, interior floors and on wooden car trailers. Many paints can’t resist various chemicals and other contaminants, but epoxy fights well against, water, oil, grease, dirt and other debris. It’s possible to do this due to tough resins that are mixed right when the application starts. And exactly this is what makes them the best option when it comes to price to quality ratio.
You can find three separate epoxy concrete paint types. The first thing to know is that 100% solids don’t hace any solvents that will evaporate. Number two are solvent based epoxies that penetrate and adhere quite well, but these are dangerous to health and you will have to vent your garage while you are applying them to the surface, due to heavy fumes. The third option are water based paints that are more affordable, thinner, have that anti-slip texture and are not hazardous. They need a lot of air the dry properly and in time.
You will have to clean your floor before applying the paint, use a hard bristled brush to remove all the debris and dirt, and do not forget to use some soapy water on the concrete to help you deal with the dirt. You need to use a degreaser to remove all those soluble contaminants so your entire surface will be cleaned. If the water you use to rinse the epoxy floor is not sticking on the floor, then the floor is completely clean. The garage floor should then be left overnight to dry. Apply your paint the following morning. A fantastic finishing coating will need two or three layers of paint. To get rid of those spills and paint drips, you need to have a clean rag made of cotton near you, as well as some epoxy thinner that will clean solvent based paints well.
Because this paint is durable, tough, has acid and salt resistence while having a clean finish, I have to choose it over the others. But you can atain these from proper application and penetration only, while you have to give them time to cure before any vehicles are allowed to move onto the surface.
