Electricity in the Making

One of man’s most outstanding achievements is the production of electrical power. Technology and other innovations made their biggest advances due to electricity. Typically the most abundant sources of energy are fossil fuels as it exists in most countries around the globe. More recently nuclear fission, water, and wind have contributed as a source of power. Water is another resource used to drive the energy producing turbines. This is done by diverting rivers, streams and other water channels to create a dam. Electricity is then produced when the water from the dam rotates the blades that powers the generator. This is a more atmosphericaly friendly system as toxic waste is not given out into the air. Although the ecosystem of the cachement is adversely affected.

Wind is also a resource that can be exploited to make electricity. Nuclear energy also helps to generate electricity. This occurs when uranium nucei are split into atoms using neutrons. This generates heat which in turn converts water to vapour that drives the turbines that create power.

Electricity can also be produced from bio-gas. Some rural areas have devised a new technology using human waste to make electricity.
